State law in NY allows for homeowners insurance companies to invoke hurricane deductibles. This type of deductible means you will pay a percentage of your homes value before the insurance companies starts paying for losses. This different type of deductible goes into effect when a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center or the National Weather Service. The percentage amount of the deductible and the wind speed that triggers the deducible varies by insurance company.
