ACA / ObamaCare Enrollment Deadline

Tonight through midnight is the last opportunity to enroll in  ACA / ObamaCare for coverage beginning January 1, 2014.  In an effort to address the widely reported issues of plans being both expensive, and hard to purchase, the Obama Administration announced  Friday that people whose insurance plans were cancelled can now purchase “catastrophic” coverage insurance. For people in this situation a hotline has been established, 1-866-837-0677, where they call to get assistance.

This latest tampering with the law by the administration is an effort to avoid loss of insurance, and financial penalty, by the approximately 5 million families that lost medical coverage  as a result of ACA / ObamaCare. Whether this change allowing consumers to select “catastrophic” coverage insurance addresses the cost issues associated with ACA / ObamaCare insurance is not yet clear. Although, early reports indicate catastrophic coverage plans are no longer the affordable plans they were in the past. According to the Seattle Times, “the chance to move to a catastrophic plan might not be the affordable deal some folks are hoping for.”

Whichever ACA / ObamaCare compliant plan you choose for your family, this website recommends purchasing insurance through a private broker until the security issues with the federal insurance exchange have been addressed. Until the insurance exchange is proven to be secure, do not take the risk of identify theft on the healthcare.gov website. To find a local agent that can help with your health insurance needs, check out the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU). Their website will help you find a broker or agent in your area.
